November 2018: The Ukrainian Advocates Association has nominated Ukraine member firm Arzinger partner Markian Malskyy to receive its 2018 Attorney of the Year award in the international arbitration category. Mr. Malskyy has handled cases under the arbitration rules of ICSID, ICC, SCC, UNCITRAL, LCIA and ICAC. He has been involved in the settlement of more than 300 disputes. He has also authored two books on commercial dispute settlement and has more than 70 published legal articles to his credit. The award is given annually by UAU to promote the value of the dispute resolution process in Ukraine, as well as to raise awareness about the importance of the work attorneys perform.

April 2018: Kateryna Oliynyk, counsel and head of intellectual property at Ukraine member firm Arzinger, has been promoted to partner. Ms. Oliinyk regularly advises both international and national clients on intellectual property matters in Ukraine. A licensed patent attorney, Ms. Oliinyk co-chairs the Intellectual Property Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine and is a member of the International Trademark Association and its data protection committee. She is also active in the Ukrainian Bar Association, having chaired its intellectual property committee for the last two years.

March 2018:  Ukraine member firm Arzinger reports that the Ukrainian Parliament last month passed a long-awaited law on limited liability companies. The firm says the new law will significantly improve and modernize the legal framework regulating LLCs. Among other things, the law addresses such inadequacies under current law as the enforceability of shareholder agreements, limits on the number of shareholders an LLC may have, audit commission requirements, and shareholder preemptive rights. According to firm partner Anna Zorya, who helped draft the new law, “These changes will raise corporate law to a significantly higher qualitative level and increase the efficiency of more than a half-million Ukrainian enterprises.” Also at Arzinger, Lana Sinichkina has been named exclusive winner of the Client Choice Awards for the life sciences and healthcare category in Ukraine. The award is given to law firms and partners around the globe for their outstanding client service. This year, Client Choice recognized 384 winners across 66 jurisdictions worldwide. Finally, partner Oleksander Plotnikov took part last month in the third annual Renewable Energy Project Finance Conference in London. During a panel discussion on debt financing of renewable energy projects, Mr. Plotnikov outlined the most vital issues associated with renewable energy financing and pointed out the most significant risks connected with projects in Ukraine and ways of mitigating them.
