Sánchez Devanny is a leading Mexican law firm that provides full-service legal advice both to Mexican and international clients. With offices in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Querétaro, as well as several strategic alliances, our firm has the technological and human capacity to speedily and efficiently represent and respond to clients in the entire Mexican Republic and abroad.

Distinction is our signature. In 1996, Jorge Sánchez Devanny founded the firm in Mexico City. Three years later, José Ángel Eseverri Ahuja came on board and in 2001, Robert W. Chandler opened our office in Monterrey. In 2015, Sánchez Devanny Querétaro became our third office in the country. This is one way to tell our story – the other is to simply say that, from the firm’s first day, all of us at Sánchez Devanny are moved by the same passion: to do things as they have never been done before.

September 2018: Chambers & Partners has ranked Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny in nine practice areas in its latest edition of its Latin America Guide, as follows: regulatory compliance, corporate and M&A, general business law, international trade and customs, labor, social security and immigration, life sciences, real estate, tax and high net worth individuals. In addition, it has ranked the following 19 partners at the firm: Abel Mejía, Alfredo Kupfer, Alfonso López, Daniel Maldonado, David Puente, Ernesto Silvas, Francisco Andrés Gámez, Gerardo Prado, Guillermo Villaseñor, Humberto Morales, José Alberto Campos, José Antonio Postigo, Mariana Eguiarte, Rafael Villamar, Ricardo León and Turenna Ramírez. Eduardo Sotelo and Oscar Quiroz have also been cited as two associates to watch. Also at Sánchez Devanny, José Antonio Postigo-Uribe has been elected managing partner of the firm’s Mexico City office. Mr. Postigo-Uribe is a partner in the corporate and M&A practice group and also heads the energy industry group. He has more than twenty years of experience advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, general finance, business transaction structuring, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, corporate planning, general corporate law, privatizations, public and private bidding processes, PPPs, project finance, infrastructure development, energy, and real estate projects.

June 2018: Diego Gómez-Haro Katznelson has joined Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny as partner in the firm’s Mexico City office. He will be a member of its real estate, infrastructure and hospitality practice group, as well as its corporate and project finance practice group. Mr. Gómez-Haro Katznelson completed his legal education at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. He also has an LL.M. in corporate governance and practice from Stanford University. He has extensive experience in handling real estate transactions, including structuring investment vehicles, acquisition and sale of assets, leasing, development and construction of projects, due diligence and financing. Before joining Sánchez Devanny, he was general counsel in Mexico for The Blackstone Group, a multinational private equity, asset management and financial services firm.

December 2017: Juan Luis Serrano Leets has joined Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny to lead the firm’s intellectual property and data privacy practice group. Mr. Serrano Leets completed his legal education at Universidad Panamericana and received an LL.M. in innovation law and policy from the University of Toronto. Before joining the firm, he was general counsel for the Mexican division of a renowned multinational pharmaceutical laboratory, where he was in charge of providing counsel on a wide array of legal issues, including intellectual property and data privacy. Mr. Serrano Leets also worked with major law firms specializing in intellectual property matters and served as vice president of the intellectual property commission at AMIIF (the Mexican Association of Pharmaceutical Research Industries).

October 2017: London-based legal directory Chambers and Partners has recently ranked Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny in the following practice areas: regulatory compliance; corporate and mergers and acquisitions; general business law (Monterrey); international trade and customs; intellectual property; labor, social security and immigration; life sciences; real estate; tax; and high net worth. It also ranked the following 15 of the firm’s partners: Abel Mejía; Alfredo Kupfer; Alfonso López; Daniel Maldonado; David Puente; Ernesto Silvas; Andrés Gámez; Gerardo Prado; Guillermo Villaseñor; Humberto Morales; José Alberto Campos; Mariana Eguiarte; Rafael Villamar; Ricardo León; and Turenna Ramírez. Two of its attorneys, Eduardo Sotelo and Oscar Quiroz, were also ranked as “associates to watch.”

July 2017: Humberto Morales-Barron has been elected by the members of the management committee of Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny to serve as the firm’s managing partner effective this month. Mr. Morales-Barron succeeds Ernesto Silvas-Medina, who has served as managing partner since July 2014. In addition, Ricardo León-Santacruz was elected managing partner of the firm’s Monterrey office and Alfredo Kupfer-Dominguez of its Mexico City office, both of whom will join Mr. Morales-Barron as members of Sánchez Devanny’s management committee.

May 2017: Claudia Georgina Garcia-Gonzalez has joined Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny as an associate in its environmental practice. Ms. Garcia-Gonzalez Claudia has more than ten years of experience in environmental legislation. She also has experience in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. With Ms. Garcia-Gonzalez’ addition to Sánchez Devanny, the firm expands its services in environmental matters for all types of companies with services in the following areas: drafting of contracts with environmental service providers; compliance with environmental regulations; water inventory management and control; environmental legal assessment; and advice and follow-up on administrative procedures.

February 2017: Latin Lawyer magazine and the Vance Center have named several SCG Legal member firms to its annual list of “Pro Bono Leading Lights” including Argentina member firm Allende & Brea, Nicaragua member firm Consortium Legal and Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny. The awards are conferred on firms that have made a significant contribution to the development of a pro bono culture in Latin America. 

February 2017: Mariana Eguiarte was recently named partner at Mexico member firm Sánchez Devanny. Ms. Eguiarte has been a member of the firm’s tax group in its Mexico City office since 2009 and has 15 years of experience dealing with a broad range of tax matters, primarily focused on domestic and international tax advice for companies and individuals, as well as handling administrative matters before the tax authority including audit reviews, tax rulings and advanced pricing agreements. She received her law degree with honors from the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City. She also has an LL.M. in international tax law from New York University School of Law and an LL.M. in tax from Universidad Panamericana. Ms. Eguiarte is admitted to practice law in both Mexico and New York.
